TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: OUARZAZATE → TODRA GORGES → MERZOUGA DUNES
Your desert expedition begins with an early morning pick-up directly from your accommodation or the airport in Ouarzazate. From there, the route heads east through the Todra Valley, where the natural flow of the Todra River has carved a massive, red-cliffed canyon through the mountains. You will have free time to walk through the gorge and appreciate the spectacular scale of the landscape. Afterwards, the drive continues past the sprawling palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with a break for lunch along the way.
In the afternoon, you will reach the edge of the Sahara Desert at Merzouga. Here, you will mount your camels to cross the sweeping sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. A stop is integrated into the trek so you can sit atop a high dune and enjoy a magnificent desert sunset. You will then continue to your luxury desert camp, where you can unwind, enjoy a delicious dinner, and listen to traditional Berber drum music around a crackling campfire under a vast, star-filled sky.
DAY 2: MERZOUGA DUNES → ERFOUD → MIDELT → IFRANE → FES (7-HOUR DRIVE)
On the final day of your tour, we highly recommend waking up early to watch a peaceful sunrise over the desert dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you will return to Merzouga on camelback to meet your private driver. Leaving the desert behind, the first stop is Rissani, the ancient capital of the Tafilalet region. The town remains a bustling commercial hub, hosting a large and lively traditional souk every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Following a stroll through the market, the drive continues to Erfoud to tour a professional workshop specializing in ancient fossilized marble.
The route then tracks northernward along the Ziz River, pausing at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the vast Ziz Valley. You will have free time for lunch in the town of Midelt before ascending into the Middle Atlas Mountains. The journey passes through the famous cedar forests near Azrou, where you can pause to see and feed the resident Barbary macaques. Next, you will visit Ifrane, celebrated for its alpine architecture, clean streets, and snowy winter climates, which give it the nickname "the Switzerland of Morocco." Your 2-day journey concludes in the late afternoon with a safe drop-off at your hotel, riad, or the airport in Fes.
