TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU → MERZOUGA
Your express desert journey begins with an early morning pick-up from your riad in Marrakech. An early departure is essential to ensure we reach the Sahara in time for your evening camel trek and a spectacular sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Leaving the city, we will head toward Merzouga, ascending into the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. We will pause to take in the breathtaking alpine views before continuing the drive. In Ait Ben Haddou, we will stop at a prime panoramic viewpoint to photograph the ancient kasbah. This remarkable fortified clay village has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and is renowned for its appearances in major films and series like Gladiator, Babel, and Game of Thrones.
From there, the drive presses on toward Merzouga. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant along the route, eventually arriving in the desert town by the late afternoon. Your camels will be ready and waiting to carry you deep into the Erg Chebbi dunes. During the trek, you will pause to soak in the peaceful atmosphere as the sun sets over the massive sea of sand.
You will arrive at your luxury desert camp just after dark. The attentive camp staff will guide you to your private luxury tent, where you can freshen up with a shower and relax. Following a mouthwatering dinner, the team will ignite a campfire and entertain you with traditional Berber songs and rhythmic drumming under the stars.
DAY 2: MERZOUGA → ZIZ VALLEY → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → IFRANE → FES
Waking up early on your second day rewards you with a truly majestic Sahara sunrise. After a hearty breakfast at the camp, a 4x4 vehicle will transfer you back to the edge of the dunes in Merzouga, where the long journey north to Fes begins.
The route first takes you through the stunning Ziz Valley, where we will pull over at a scenic viewpoint overlooking a massive oasis packed with lush palm trees. Continuing into the Middle Atlas Mountains, we will make a special roadside stop in the dense cedar forests near Ifrane, giving you a chance to spot wild Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.
You will arrive in the imperial city of Fes in the late afternoon. Your express 2-day desert adventure officially concludes with a safe drop-off directly at your riad in the Fes medina.
