TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU → OUARZAZATE → DADES VALLEY
Your desert adventure kicks off with a prompt 8:00 AM pick-up from your Marrakech hotel or riad. Leaving the bustling city behind, the drive heads southeast, winding through the awe-inspiring High Atlas Mountains. We will make several stops so you can photograph the breathtaking landscapes and traditional Berber villages.
By midday, you will arrive at the historic village of Ait Ben Haddou for lunch and a walking tour of its famous kasbah. This ancient fortified clay village has held UNESCO World Heritage status since 1987 and is renowned globally as the filming location for cinematic masterpieces like Gladiator, Babel, and Lawrence of Arabia.
Continuing the journey, you will make a brief stop in Ouarzazate, where you have the option to visit the exterior or interior of Africa’s largest film studio. The route then carries you through Boumalne and the fragrant Valley of Roses. Upon reaching the Dades Valley, you can choose to view the fascinating "monkey fingers" rock formations today or save them for the following morning, before settling into your accommodation for the night.
DAY 2: DADES VALLEY → TINGHIR OASIS → TODGHA CANYON → MERZOUGA DESERT
After a delicious breakfast, the drive continues to Tinghir. Here, you will stop at a spectacular panoramic viewpoint overlooking a sprawling oasis filled with lush palm groves and ancient kasbahs. You will then have time to walk through the dramatic Todgha Canyon, exploring the towering 300-metre-deep gorge carved out by the winding Todgha River.
As we approach the Sahara, your guide will offer an optional stop at a local Berber cooperative. You can dress up in traditional Berber clothing for free souvenir photos. While items are available for purchase, there is absolutely no pressure to buy anything. If you prefer to skip this stop entirely, simply communicate this to your guide and we will proceed uninterrupted.
Upon arriving in Merzouga, your heavy luggage will be safely transported to the desert camp via a 4x4 vehicle, freeing you up to embark on a magical camel trek. As you ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes, you will witness a mesmerizing sunset painted in vibrant reds and oranges. The evening concludes at your luxury camp, where you will enjoy a night of traditional drumming, local storytelling, and incredible stargazing in the heart of the Sahara.
DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → ZIZ VALLEY → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → IFRANE → FES
Wake up early to experience a profoundly serene and captivating desert sunrise. After a satisfying breakfast at the camp, you can choose to return to the edge of the dunes in Merzouga by either camel or a comfortable 4x4 vehicle.
The long journey north to Fes then begins. The drive features a stunning panoramic stop over the Ziz Valley, an immense gorge packed with charming villages and sweeping palm groves. As the landscape shifts into the Middle Atlas Mountains, you will pass through dense cedar forests—keep an eye out for wild Barbary apes, a unique macaque species uniquely adapted to the cooler mountain climate.
You will enjoy a refreshing coffee break in Ifrane, a pristine alpine town famous for its European architecture and affectionately known as the "Switzerland of Morocco." Your 3-day desert expedition officially wraps up with a late afternoon drop-off at your accommodation in Fes.
