TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → MERZOUGA DESERT
Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your Marrakech hotel or riad. Leaving the city, you will journey southeast, navigating the spectacular passes of the High Atlas Mountains. We will make several stops along the way so you can admire and photograph the breathtaking alpine scenery.
The route then takes you to Ait Ben Haddou to explore its world-famous kasbah. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, this ancient fortified village boasts incredible panoramic views and has served as a filming location for epic productions like Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones. After a relaxing lunch at a restaurant along the route, the long drive continues south towards the Sahara.
By the late afternoon, you will arrive in Merzouga and check into a beautiful local riad, where you will enjoy dinner and a restful first night.
DAY 2: FULL DAY TO DISCOVER THE MERZOUGA DESERT
Wake up early to catch a spectacular sunrise over the sprawling Erg Chebbi dunes directly from your riad. After a hearty breakfast, your full-day desert exploration begins. You will hop into a 4x4 SUV and venture off-road to visit Berber nomads living behind the dunes. Your guide will explain their unique cultural practices and how they navigate daily life in this remote environment.
The excursion continues to the hidden, abandoned mining village of Mefis, followed by a stop in Khamlia to experience the captivating rhythms of traditional Gnawa music. If the seasonal Lake of Birds is full, we will also stop to take in the vibrant views.
After a midday lunch, you will return to your riad for some free time to relax or enjoy a refreshing swim. Later in the afternoon, you will meet your camel caravan for a trek deep into the heart of the dunes. You will pause to watch the sunset and try the thrilling activity of sandboarding before arriving at your luxury desert camp. A mouthwatering dinner will be served as you experience the timeless magic of the Sahara under a brilliantly starry sky.
DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → AGDEZ → MARRAKECH
Following a delicious breakfast, we will begin our journey back to the vibrant city of Marrakech. The return route takes you through the stunning Draa Valley—the longest valley in Morocco. A scheduled stop in Agdez allows you to take in sweeping panoramic views of the valley and its massive, lush palm groves.
The drive continues with a stop for a satisfying lunch in Ouarzazate. Afterwards, you will navigate the majestic winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains once more, ultimately descending into Marrakech. Your unique 3-day desert expedition concludes with a safe drop-off at your accommodation.
