TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: OUARZAZATE → TODRA GORGES → MERZOUGA DUNES

Your tour starts with an early morning pick-up from your accommodation or the airport in Ouarzazate. From there, we drive toward the Todra Valley, where the river has carved a colossal canyon out of the mountains, leaving behind massive red rock faces. Enjoy free time to stroll through the gorge and take in the dramatic landscapes before we continue through the palm-filled regions of Touroug and Tinjdad, stopping for lunch along the way.

In the afternoon, you will reach the edge of the Merzouga desert. Here, you will switch to camels to traverse the sandy expanse, pausing on top of a high dune to witness a stunning Sahara sunset. The trek concludes at a premium luxury desert camp. Spend the evening dancing and listening to traditional Berber drum music around the campfire under a brilliant, star-filled sky. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

DAY 2: FULL DAY MERZOUGA DESERT EXPLORATION

Following breakfast, the entire day is dedicated to uncovering the wonders of the Erg Chebbi region, a striking landscape of sand dunes, seasonal wild lakes, fossil beds, remote mines, and lush oases.

We begin with an off-road 4x4 drive to an ancient kohl (eyeliner) mine, then venture to a settlement of desert nomads to learn about their daily routines while sharing a warm cup of traditional Berber tea in their woven tents. Next, we head to the village of Khamlia to experience live Gnaoua music and dance performances, keeping alive a heritage rooted in Sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will stroll through a serene palm grove and take a short drive to Merzouga's seasonal wild lake, frequently visited by flamingos.

In the late afternoon, you will return to the dunes by camel, pausing on a high crest for another spectacular sunset before arriving back at the luxury camp. The night features more campfire drumming and stargazing. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA DUNES → ERFOUD → MIDELT → CEDAR FOREST → IFRANE → FES

Wake up early to catch a breathtaking desert sunrise deep within the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you will ride camels back to Merzouga to meet your driver. Leaving the dunes behind, our first stop is Rissani, the historical capital of Tafilalet and a major regional trading hub, boasting a sprawling souk that comes alive on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After wandering the market, we proceed to Erfoud to tour a specialized workshop showcasing fossilized marble.

The route then traces the Ziz River, stopping for a panoramic view over the immense Ziz Valley oasis, followed by lunch in the town of Midelt. Continuing north into the Middle Atlas Mountains, we pass through the dense cedar forests where wild Barbary Macaques live; you'll have a chance to walk through the woods and feed them. Next, we stop in Ifrane, celebrated for its crisp climate, winter snows, and European alpine-style architecture—reasons why it is often called the "Switzerland of Morocco." The tour concludes with a drop-off at your Fes accommodation or the airport.

(Note: If you prefer to travel back to Marrakech instead of Fes, we can alternatively arrange our 3-Day Ouarzazate to Marrakech itinerary).
