TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT ERRACHIDIA → MERZOUGA

Your desert tour begins with a pick-up from the Errachidia airport (ERH) or your local accommodation in town. From there, you will enjoy a direct drive south through the changing landscapes to the magnificent Sahara dunes of Merzouga. Overnight stay in Merzouga.

A note on flights: Ryanair operates domestic flights from Marrakech three days a week (with arrivals between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM), while Royal Air Maroc offers daily domestic flights from Casablanca (typically arriving around midnight). The Day 1 schedule can easily be modified to align with your flight timing.

DAY 2: FULL DAY IN THE MERZOUGA DESERT

Following breakfast, the entire day is dedicated to uncovering the secrets of the Merzouga region. The landscape features diverse terrain, from towering sand dunes and seasonal oases to ancient mining sites and fossil beds—making it perfect for light outdoor activities.

Your day starts with an off-road drive to an old galena (kohl) mine once used for traditional eyeliner. Next, you will visit a nomadic family in their handwoven tents to learn about their daily routines over a hot cup of Berber tea. From there, you will proceed to Khamlia village to experience a live Gnawa music and dance performance, a deep-rooted cultural tradition kept alive by inhabitants whose ancestry traces back to Sub-Saharan nations like Mali, Sudan, and Niger.

After free time for lunch at a regional restaurant, you will take a relaxing stroll through a nearby palm oasis and drive to Merzouga's seasonal lake, often referred to as the flamingo lake due to the migratory birds it attracts. In the late afternoon, you will mount camels to cross the sandy wilderness, pausing on a high crest to witness a spectacular Sahara sunset. You will then arrive at a luxury camp to enjoy a delicious dinner and traditional drumming around a campfire under a brilliant night sky. Overnight at the camp.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA DUNES → RISSANI → ERFOUD → MIDELT → CEDAR FOREST → IFRANE → FES

Wake up early to catch a breathtaking sunrise over the desert dunes. After breakfast, you will return to Merzouga by camel to meet your driver and begin the journey north. The first stop is Rissani, the historical capital of Tafilalet, which remains a bustling trade hub with a vibrant local souk operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Following a walk through the market, the drive continues to Erfoud to tour a specialized workshop where fossilized marble is excavated and polished. From there, the route follows the path of the Ziz River, pausing for a spectacular panoramic view over the Ziz Valley, before stopping for lunch in the town of Midelt.

In the afternoon, you will ascend into the Middle Atlas Mountains to enter the ancient Cedar Forest. Here, you can stretch your legs and interact with the native Barbary macaques that call the forest home. Next, you will stop in Ifrane, a pristine mountain town celebrated for its snowy winters, cool temperatures, and striking alpine architecture that has earned it the title of "the Switzerland of Morocco." Your 3-day journey officially concludes in the late afternoon with a safe drop-off at your chosen location in Fes.
