DAY 2: EXPLORE MERZOUGA → NOMADS → KHAMLIA (GNAOUA VILLAGE) → MERZOUGA LAKE → ERG CHEBBI → PALM GROVE
Following breakfast, the entire day is dedicated to uncovering the beauty of the Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi). This dramatic region features sweeping sand dunes, a seasonal wildlife lake, geological fossil sites, historic mines, and lush oases—making it ideal for light outdoor exploration.
Your excursion begins with an off-road drive to an ancient kohl (eyeliner) mine. Next, you will visit local nomads in their traditional woven tents to discover their way of life over a fresh cup of Berber mint tea. The journey continues to the village of Khamlia, where you will experience the rhythms of traditional Gnawa music and dance, performed by residents whose ancestral roots trace back to Mali, Sudan, and Niger. You will have free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, take a relaxing stroll through a nearby palm oasis and drive a few kilometres to visit the seasonal wild lake of Merzouga (frequently referred to as the flamingo lake).
Later, you will trade your vehicle for camels to trek across the sand dunes, pausing on a high crest to witness a magical Sahara sunset before arriving at your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional dinner and listen to Berber drumming around the campfire under a brilliant, star-filled night sky. Overnight stay at the camp.
Total driving time: Approximately 2 hours
DAY 3: MERZOUGA SAHARA → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → MARRAKECH
Wake up early to catch a breathtaking desert sunrise deep in the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you will return to Merzouga to meet your driver and begin the westbound journey. The route features panoramic viewpoints and quick café breaks on the way to Ouarzazate, where you will have free time to enjoy lunch.
After your lunch break, the drive continues toward Marrakech by way of the iconic ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. This ancient, fortified village is a protected UNESCO World Heritage site and has served as a famous backdrop for legendary films like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Alexander, as well as the hit series Game of Thrones. Finally, you will cross the scenic Tizi n'Tichka Pass through the High Atlas Mountains, arriving in Marrakech for a drop-off at your accommodation or the airport, marking the end of your tour.
Total driving time: Approximately 9 hours
