TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → OUARZAZATE → DADES GORGES
Your 4-day adventure begins with a convenient morning pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Leaving the city behind, the drive ascends into the High Atlas Mountains, winding through charming Berber villages and stopping at spectacular panoramic viewpoints for photos.
You will enjoy a delicious lunch at Ait Ben Haddou, followed by an exploration of its historic, fortified kasbah. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987, this incredible earthen clay village has served as a filming location for major cinematic productions like Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and the hit series Game of Thrones.
After a brief drive to Ouarzazate—where you can opt to visit Africa's largest film studios—the route continues through the fragrant Valley of Roses. Finally, you will arrive at the Dades Gorge to admire the fascinating "monkey fingers" rock formations and take in sweeping canyon views before checking into your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
DAY 2: DADES GORGES → TODRA CANYON → MERZOUGA DESERT
Following a delightful breakfast, the journey continues along the scenic Dades and Todra rivers, passing lush palm groves and traditional Berber settlements. Your first major stop is the Todra Gorge in Tinghir, an internationally renowned canyon featuring massive, breathtaking rock walls.
As you head further towards the Sahara, your guide will offer an optional stop at a local Berber cooperative. Here, you can try on traditional clothing for free photos and browse desert essentials like scarves. There is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything; the stop is primarily to highlight local Berber culture. If you prefer to skip it, simply inform your guide.
Upon arriving in Merzouga, you will trade your vehicle for a camel, trekking deep into the dunes. Enjoy sandboarding and a magical desert sunset before arriving at your luxury desert camp. A delicious dinner is served under a starry night sky, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the timeless beauty and serenity of the Sahara.
DAY 3: EXPLORE THE MERZOUGA DESERT
We highly recommend waking up early to witness a glorious sunrise over the nearby sand dunes. After a tasty breakfast at the camp, a dedicated 4x4 SUV will take you on a full-day exploration of the Merzouga region.
You will venture off-road to visit a nomadic Berber family in their traditional tents, gaining incredible insight into their unique culture and how they survive in such a harsh, remote environment. The day also includes a visit to the hidden, abandoned mining village of Mefis, a stop to hear rhythmic Gnawa music performed by locals in the village of Khamlia, and a visit to the seasonal Lake of Birds (if water levels permit).
After a midday lunch, you will transfer to a beautiful local riad to check in. The afternoon is yours to relax by the pool or stroll through the nearby dunes. Dinner will be served at the riad, where you will spend the night.
DAY 4: MERZOUGA DESERT → AGDEZ → MARRAKECH
Enjoy a tasty breakfast at your riad before beginning the journey back to the vibrant city of Marrakech. Today's route takes you through the magnificent Draa Valley, recognized as the longest valley in Morocco. You will stop in the town of Agdez to admire sweeping panoramic views of the vast, lush palm oases.
After pausing for a satisfying lunch in Ouarzazate, the drive carries you back over the majestic passes of the High Atlas Mountains. Your 4-day Sahara adventure officially concludes in the late afternoon with a safe drop-off at your Marrakech accommodation.
