Your 8-day Moroccan journey begins with a warm welcome at the Tangier airport, port, or your local hotel. Your private driver/guide will meet you and assist with your luggage before you embark on a scenic drive south toward the Rif Mountains.
Your destination is Chefchaouen, Morocco's famous "Blue City." After checking into your cozy riad or hotel, the rest of the day is yours to explore. Wander through the striking, blue-washed alleys, relax at a charming cafe in the main square, browse the local markets, and enjoy authentic Moroccan dishes for dinner before turning in for a peaceful night's rest.
DAY 2: CHEFCHAOUEN → VOLUBILIS → MEKNES → FES
After breakfast at your riad, the drive continues south through picturesque Rif villages and rolling countryside. Your first stop is Volubilis, home to Morocco's most significant ancient Roman ruins. A walk through the site reveals remarkably well-preserved 3rd-century mosaics, grand public arches, and columns that offer a window into Roman life.
Next, you will head to Meknes, the historic 17th-century Ismaili capital. Following a midday lunch break, you will explore the historic medina, framed by monumental defensive walls, and pause to admire the intricate artistry of the grand Bab el Mansour gate. You will also visit the historic Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, dedicated to the revered Sultan who established the city. The day concludes with a short drive to Fes, checking into a charming traditional riad for the evening.
DAY 3: GUIDED EXPLORATION OF FES
Today is entirely dedicated to uncovering Fes, an imperial city celebrated as Morocco's cultural and spiritual heart. Your expert local city guide will meet you at your riad to begin a comprehensive walking tour of the medieval Medina, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The day's exploration includes a stop at the grand golden gates of the Royal Palace, followed by a walk through the labyrinthine streets to see historic landmarks like Al-Qarawiyyin University, the Al-Attarine Madrasa, and the beautifully carved Nejjarine Fountain. You will also witness the traditional dye pits at the famous Chouara Tanneries and explore the Mellah (the historic Jewish Quarter) to learn about the city's multicultural past. The tour concludes at an ancient hilltop fortress, granting you breathtaking panoramic views over the Fes skyline before you return to your riad.
DAY 4: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT
Following breakfast at your riad, you will head south toward the Sahara. The route climbs into the Middle Atlas Mountains, pausing for a refreshing break in Ifrane, an alpine town known for its clean streets and European architecture.
Continuing through the dense mountain cedar forests, you will have a great chance to spot wild Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. After a lunch stop at a restaurant along the way, the scenery dramatically shifts as you drive past the massive palm groves and lush oases of the Ziz Valley.
By afternoon, you will reach the desert outpost of Merzouga, where your camel caravan awaits. Trek across the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, stopping on a high ridge to watch a stunning Sahara sunset. Afterwards, you will proceed to a luxury desert camp. Settle into your private en-suite tent, enjoy a sumptuous dinner, and gather around the bonfire to listen to the hypnotic rhythms of traditional Berber drum music played by the camp team.
DAY 5: DESERT DISCOVERY
Waking up early rewards you with a spectacular and peaceful sunrise over the sand dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you can choose to return to Merzouga town via a serene camel ride or an exciting 4x4 drive.
Your full-day desert excursion begins in the village of Khamlia, where you will experience a live performance of Gnawa music—a deeply spiritual tradition rooted in Sub-Saharan rhythms and soulful melodies. Next, your 4x4 takes you off-road to M’Fis, a remote, abandoned village known for its historical galena mines, where you can explore the ruins and learn how the mineral was gathered for traditional mascara.
From there, you will journey deeper into the desert plains to visit a local Nomadic family living in a traditional tent. Enjoy a warm cup of tea and hear firsthand accounts of how they navigate their daily life and adapt to the demanding desert environment. After lunch, you will transfer to a beautiful desert riad to unwind, swim in the pool, or try optional quad biking/buggy adventures on the dunes before a relaxing dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 6: MERZOUGA DESERT → RISSANI → TODRA GORGE → DADES VALLEY
After breakfast at your riad, the journey heads west toward the rugged Dades Valley. The first stop is the historic market town of Rissani; if it is a Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, you will get to wander through its lively, colorful souk filled with aromatic spices, textiles, and local livestock trading.
The route then brings you to the magnificent Todra Gorge. Take a leisurely walk beneath the immense, sheer rock cliffs that tower 300 metres above the flowing Todra River—a world-class destination for rock climbers.
Continuing the drive into the Dades Valley, you will pause to photograph the unusual geological formations known as the "monkey fingers." Wind through the canyon roads to enjoy sweeping views of the valley’s dramatic cliffs and lush greenery before checking into your hotel for dinner and a restful night. Driving distance: Approximately 310 km Driving time: Approximately 5 hr
DAY 7: DADES VALLEY → OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH
Following breakfast, the drive leads to Ouarzazate, affectionately dubbed the "Hollywood of Africa." Here, you will tour the expansive Atlas Studios to walk through real movie sets that have brought legendary films to life.
Next, you will head to the iconic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic earthen fortress is an architectural marvel and has provided a timeless backdrop for blockbusters like Gladiator, The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. After exploring its winding paths, you will enjoy a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, the journey crosses the majestic High Atlas Mountains, navigating the winding roads of the Tizi n'Tichka Pass while enjoying rugged alpine vistas. By late afternoon, you will arrive in Marrakech and check into a charming riad in the heart of the Medina.
