TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU → DADES VALLEY

Your 3-day desert getaway begins with a prompt 8:00 AM pick-up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. Leaving the city behind, the journey ascends into the High Atlas Mountains, navigating the winding roads of the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass, which sits at an impressive altitude of 2,260 metres (7,415 feet). Along the way, we will stop to admire and photograph several charming traditional Berber villages.

You will then arrive at the renowned Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This ancient fortified clay village is celebrated for its remarkable Moroccan architecture and has served as the backdrop for legendary films and series, including Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Babel (2006), Prince of Persia (2010), Game of Thrones (2012), and the acclaimed documentary David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet (2020). You will have ample time to wander through this historic marvel.

Following a delicious lunch, the route heads south along the famous "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs." You will pass through Ouarzazate, the palm groves of Skoura, and the fragrant Valley of Roses in Kalaat M’Gouna. Upon arriving in the Dades Valley in the late afternoon, your driver will take you to view the fascinating rock formations known as "monkey fingers" (if time permits; otherwise, this will be scheduled for the next morning). The day concludes with a relaxing overnight stay at your chosen comfortable hotel.

DAY 2: DADES VALLEY → TINGHIR OASIS → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA DESERT

We kick off the second day with a tasty breakfast before heading east toward Tinghir. Here, you will stop at a scenic viewpoint overlooking a massive oasis filled with lush palm trees and picturesque Berber villages. Just a short drive away is the Todra Gorge, where you will have the opportunity to walk between sheer rock cliffs that plunge 300 metres down to the valley floor.

The journey then presses on to the Merzouga desert. Arriving in the afternoon, you will trade your vehicle for a camel and begin a trek deep into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Your caravan will pause on a high sandy ridge, allowing you to watch a breathtaking sunset over the golden landscape.

Continuing to your luxury desert camp, you will be warmly welcomed with a fresh cup of mint tea. Enjoy some free time to relax before a delightful Moroccan dinner is served. The evening comes alive around a roaring campfire as local Berber friends play traditional drums and share stories beneath an incredibly starry night sky.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → DRAA RIVER → OUARZAZATE → MARRAKECH

We highly recommend waking up early today to climb the nearest high dune and witness a breathtaking Sahara sunrise. After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the camp, you can choose to travel back to the edge of the dunes in Merzouga by either camel trek or a comfortable 4x4 vehicle.

The return journey to Marrakech begins, this time following a different route that traces the magnificent Draa River. Stretching for 1,100 kilometres, it is the longest river in Morocco, creating a massive, sprawling valley of palm oases.

Your driver is happy to make stops whenever you desire to take photos or stretch your legs. We will pause for lunch in Ouarzazate before navigating the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains once more. Your 3-day desert tour officially comes to a close as you are safely dropped off at your accommodation in Marrakech.
