TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA
Your rapid 2-day desert escape begins with a pick-up from your Fes riad. The journey south kicks off with a visit to Ifrane, recognized for its alpine architecture and cooler climate, earning it the nickname "the Switzerland of Morocco." Continuing through the Middle Atlas Mountains, you will pause at a cedar forest to observe the local Barbary apes in their natural habitat.
After stopping for lunch at a roadside restaurant, the drive descends towards the Ziz Valley, where you will pull over at a scenic viewpoint to admire the massive, palm-filled oasis below.
You will arrive at the edge of the desert by the afternoon, where your camels will be waiting to transport you across the rolling dunes. You will stop on a high ridge to watch the sunset before arriving at your luxury desert camp. Here, you will be shown to your private tent—complete with a shower—to relax and freshen up. Following a delicious dinner, the camp staff will light a roaring bonfire, inviting you to sit back and enjoy a live performance of Berber drumming and singing under the stars. DAY 2: MERZOUGA → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH
We highly suggest rising early to catch a peaceful desert sunrise painting the sand dunes. After enjoying a tasty breakfast, a 4x4 vehicle will drive you from the camp back to the town of Merzouga. From there, you will embark on the long, scenic journey towards Marrakech, broken up by several rest stops.
A major highlight of the day is a panoramic stop overlooking the legendary Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, this ancient fortified clay village is celebrated worldwide as a filming location for blockbuster hits like The Mummy, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones.
After capturing photos of this historic marvel, the route ascends into the High Atlas Mountains. You will enjoy multiple panoramic viewpoints as you cross the mountain passes before finally descending into the city.
