TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: FES → IFRANE → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT
Your desert expedition begins immediately after breakfast at your Fes riad or hotel. Setting off toward the Sahara, your first break is in the pristine alpine town of Ifrane, often referred to as the "Switzerland of Morocco."
The drive then continues into the Middle Atlas Mountains, pausing in the dense cedar forests where you can observe Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.
You will stop for lunch at a local restaurant along the route. As you approach the Merzouga region, the landscape shifts dramatically, offering sweeping panoramic views of the palm-filled Ziz Valley.
Arriving in Merzouga by the late afternoon, you will transition from your vehicle to a camel for a magical trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will pause on a high dune to watch a breathtaking Sahara sunset before reaching your luxury desert camp. The evening concludes with an immersive cultural experience featuring traditional drumming, local storytelling, and a magnificent starry night sky.
DAY 2: MERZOUGA DESERT → RISSANI → TODRA GORGE → DADES VALLEY
Waking up early is highly encouraged so you can witness a tranquil desert sunrise. After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the camp, you can choose to return to the edge of the dunes in Merzouga either by camel or via a comfortable 4x4 vehicle.
The westward journey to Boumalne Dades begins, passing through Erfoud, Rissani, and the spectacular Todgha Gorges. If you happen to travel on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, you will have the chance to wander through the vibrant traditional market in Rissani, offering a rich glimpse into southern Moroccan daily life. The route then leads to Tinghir, where you can take a peaceful walk along the riverbed beneath the towering, sheer rock walls of the Todra Gorge.
By the afternoon, you will arrive in Boumalne Dades. Before checking into your accommodation, you will enjoy a scenic drive through the Dades Valley to view the fascinating rock formations affectionately known as the "monkey fingers." You will spend the evening relaxing at a charming hotel in the heart of the valley.
DAY 3: DADES VALLEY → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH
On the final day of your desert tour, enjoy breakfast at your hotel before setting out toward Ait Ben Haddou. The route winds through the fragrant Valley of Roses, the city of Ouarzazate, and numerous picturesque Berber villages.
In Ouarzazate, you have the option to visit the famous Atlas Studios, where film sets and props from major cinematic productions are preserved (you may tour the inside or simply take photos from the outside).
Just 15 kilometres further lies the iconic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This incredibly preserved clay fortress is globally recognized, having served as the fictional city of Yunkai in Game of Thrones and the backdrop for blockbusters like Gladiator.
After exploring the Kasbah and enjoying a relaxing lunch, the final leg of the journey takes you up and over the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (reaching 2,260 metres above sea level). You will take in the breathtaking mountain landscapes before descending into Marrakech, arriving at your final destination in the late afternoon.
